Is your birthday or are the holidays coming up? This year instead of gifts, which have a 50% chance of ending up in the landfill, ask your friends to donate to the Council through a Facebook Causes Birthday or Holiday Wish.  If just 10 of your friends donate $10 each, you can raise $100, which would help us to plant trees, restore streams and do other important work in honor of your birthday!   Click here to get started.  Be sure to choose Tennessee Environmental Council to raise money for us!

What if Tennessee Environmental Council earned a donation every time you shopped online at your favorite stores, ate out at your favorite restaurants, or searched the internet?  Well, now it can!

GoodSearch is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macys and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you´ll be supporting your favorite cause.

GoodDining allows you to help your favorite cause by visiting your favorite restaurant, bar or club.

And if you download the GoodApp toolbar & app, your cause will earn money every time you shop and search online – even if you forget to go to GoodShop or GoodSearch first!    Be sure to select Tennessee Environmental Council as your cause.

George Merhoff is a 12-year-old student in Middle Tennessee  who created Drive Minus Five to promote environmental conservation and also as a way to live slower.   His mission is for everyone to “live minus five” and drive five MPH slower than their normal rate (if you normally drive 5 over the speed limit – try to drive the speed limit!).  For short distances it won´t take you much extra time at all, and you will not release as much pollution into the environment. His website is

You can order a Drive Minus Five bumper sticker on his website for just $3.00 and $.30 of each sticker will be donated to Tennessee Environmental Council.   Slowing down in our cars and in our lives is critically important to our individual wellbeing and the health of the planet.  We applaud George for his enthusiasm and initiative to slow things down and make our world a better place!
