Healthy tree canopy for all, across Tennessee
The purpose of TEC’s Tree Initiative is to ensure that every Tennessee community has healthy, robust tree canopy. TEC helps people and communities who are eager to plant native trees in this effort to create thriving habitats for all.
We accomplish this through two
Primary Projects
Tennessee Tree Day
Tennessee Tree Day is an annual statewide native tree planting event. TEC sets up tree distribution locations across Tennessee, and an online store for people to reserve trees to plant. This is the largest community tree planting event in America, and it happens every year in March.
Urban & Community Forestry
The Urban & Community Forestry project organizes targeted, localized tree giveaway and planting events in select communities that have the lowest tree canopy in Tennessee – helping the communities that need trees the most.
We use treeequity.org to identify communities with lowest tree canopy, and aim for 50% tree canopy or greater.
