About the Program
The Urban and Community Forestry program is a Federal Grant funded program to increase canopy cover in low canopy census tracts all throughout the State of Tennessee.
What we have accomplished
The program has brought native trees as well as fruit trees to small towns and rural communities all throughout Tennessee that often get left behind by the other tree programs of bigger metropolitan cities like Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga.
In west tennessee
In communities such as Martin, Union City, Dyersburg and Jackson 1609 trees were given away.
Goals of the Program Ongoingly
The goal of the UCF program ongoingly is to identify census tracts throughout the State of Tennessee that have low tree canopy and mobilize tree giveaway events and tree planting events in those low tree canopy communities until the grant end date of April, 2009.
In east tennessee
In communities such as Alcoa and Cleveland 1387 trees were given away
In memphis
350 trees were given away and 58 trees were planted on Memphis College Prep Elementary School
